About the venue
Lakeside, on a grand scale
Just outside Knutsford, The Mere sits on the shore of the lake it’s named after, next to a championship golf course. In July 2026 it reopened as Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere, the first Fairmont hotel in the North West.
It’s one of the few Cheshire venues built for really big weddings. The Grand Ballroom holds up to 1,000 guests, and the hotel is licensed for civil ceremonies of up to 750. Couples can go with the hotel’s own catering or a dry hire wedding with their own caterers and suppliers.
Guests can stay on site in rooms and suites looking out over the lake or the golf course, so it’s easy to make a weekend of it, and dry hire ballroom packages include a Junior Suite for the two of you on the wedding night.
Bigger rooms need more sound. For weddings of 200 guests or more, we bring our larger PA system, so the band sounds just as full at the back of the ballroom as it does at the front.

Is The Mere Golf Resort and Spa now Fairmont Cheshire?
Yes. The resort reopened in July 2026 as Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere. It’s the same lakeside estate near Knutsford, and we’re happy to play weddings booked under either name.
Can you play a large ballroom wedding?
Yes. For 200 guests or more we bring our larger PA system, so the sound carries properly across a big room. Let us know your numbers when you get in touch.
Can you play our ceremony at The Mere?
Yes. Our acoustic singer and guitarist can play your ceremony, then carry on through the drinks reception.
Do you work with the wedding team at the hotel?
Yes. We agree load-in, set-up times and stage position with the venue in advance, so you don’t need to pass messages between us.
Do we need to hire a PA or lights?
No. Sound and stage lighting are part of every booking, scaled up for a ballroom when your numbers call for it. Our insurance and PAT paperwork can go straight to the hotel’s events team.
How much does a wedding band at The Mere cost?
From around £2,000, with the final figure set by your date, playing times, extras and how many guests you’re expecting, since big ballroom weddings may need the larger PA. No agency fees on top. Send us your date for a quote.
How far ahead should we book?
Big hotel venues often book well ahead, so check our availability as soon as your date is confirmed with The Mere.
