About the venue
History in the heart of the city
On Little St John Street, a short walk from the Roman walls, the cathedral and the River Dee, Old Palace Chester brings a city-centre wedding together under one roof.
Ceremonies for up to 150 can be held in the Ballroom or on the Garden Terrace, or for up to 110 in the River Room, the old Bishop's chapel.
The Ballroom seats 150 for dinner, and up to 200 guests can join the evening across the Ballroom, the Arrival Hall and the Peploe Lounge and Bar. Music winds down at 11.30pm.
There are 22 bedrooms plus the Palace Suite, sleeping up to 55, so your closest guests can stay in the building.

The venue keeps amplified music, brass and drums indoors out of respect for its neighbours, so we plan the whole day around the rooms inside.
A proper ballroom
The Ballroom gives a 9-piece room to set up and a dancefloor right in front of the band.
River Room vows
Our acoustic singer and guitarist can play your ceremony in the old Bishop's chapel or in the Ballroom.
Finish on a high
With music winding down at 11.30pm, we plan the sets so the night builds to a big finish, not a sudden stop.
Horns inside
Brass is not allowed outdoors here, so our roaming brass band can play the drinks reception inside instead.

Can Brass Monkees play at Old Palace Chester?
Yes. We play weddings all over Chester (see our Chester wedding band page). Before the day we speak to the venue team about where the band sets up, timings and their music arrangements.
Can you play outside at Old Palace Chester?
Amplified music, brass and drums are not allowed outdoors here, apart from amplified music for the ceremony, so the band and roaming brass play inside. Our acoustic singer and guitarist can still play an outdoor ceremony.
What time does the music finish at Old Palace Chester?
Music winds down and the bar closes at 11.30pm. We plan the sets and the DJ booth around that, so the night ends on a high.
Do you work with sound limiters?

Do we need to hire a PA or lights?
No. Our own PA and stage lighting are included, and we are fully insured, with documents ready for the venue if they ask.
