The band and music8
A mix of pop, soul, Motown, R&B and funk, from the 1950s right up to today's hits, all given the Brass Monkees treatment with a live horn section. Have a look through our full song list.
There are nine of us: drums, bass, guitar, keys, two vocalists, saxophone, trombone and trumpet.
We usually play two sets of an hour. If you'd prefer one longer set, we can arrange that, and we also offer three shorter sets.
Yes. Pick your must-have favourites from our song list and send us a "please don't play" list too.
We'll weave your picks into the night. Our experience means we know how to make a party flow, so we keep the rest of the set flexible and read the room, with a good balance of male and female vocals.
We'd love to. If your song is one we're planning to add to our repertoire anyway, we'll learn it at no extra cost. Otherwise there's an additional fee to arrange the music for the band and rehearse it.
Alternatively, we can play the original track through our PA so it sounds just right.
Yes! We play public gigs throughout the year, so check our gig listings to catch us live.
Can't make a gig? Watch our showreel to see and hear the band in action.
Yes, you can! We have playlists we can play before we start and during our breaks, or you can make your own on Spotify and email us the link. We'll load it onto our system, ready to go.
For private functions the band wears shirts and ties. For public performances we wear Brass Monkees T-shirts. Got a theme? Let us know and we'll talk it through.
On the day7
We usually arrive at 6pm. If we're setting up in a different room from your wedding breakfast, we'll get started straight away. If it's the same room, we'll wait until the meal and speeches have finished.
We need a minimum of 60 minutes to set up and soundcheck. On top of that, we'll need a little time to get changed and grab a drink before we go on, so we're fresh and ready when your guests hit the dancefloor.
Yes. To give you a great performance with high-quality sound, we do a proper soundcheck once we've set up, which does mean making some noise for a short time.
If we're setting up while dinner is being served, just let us know and we'll find a way to work around it.
We're flexible and happy to fit around your day, but we usually recommend starting no earlier than 8:30–9pm, so the party peaks at the right time and the dancefloor stays full to the end.
Our quotes include a latest finish time of midnight. In some cases we can finish later. If you'd like the party to carry on past midnight, we'd usually suggest adding our DJ booth to your package.
We'll need free soft drinks and water while we're on site, and we ask for a hot meal for all the musicians. It can be the same as your guests are eating or something separate.
We'll also need somewhere to get changed, ideally a room where we can be out of the way of your guests between sets.
Yes, we'll need parking for all our vehicles, as close to the venue as possible so we can unload. We're happy to move the vehicles once we've unloaded. Any parking or congestion charges will need to be reimbursed.
Venue and technical6
For the 9-piece band, we need a flat, sheltered space of around 6m wide x 3m deep. We've fitted into much smaller spaces too, so if your venue is tight on room, just talk to us.
We're happy to set up on or off a stage, indoors or out, as long as the weather is good or we're protected from it.
We need two separate 13 amp power supplies on individual spurs, not just two wall sockets. This is often overlooked, especially in marquees, where the electrical requirements are easily underestimated.
If you're using a generator, we'll need a 32 amp supply with 13 amp sockets for the sole use of the band.
Yes. We bring a full professional PA and lighting set-up, run by our own sound technician, and it's all included in your quote.
Our 3kW PA system comes as standard. For bigger rooms we also have a much larger 5kW PA system, available at an additional cost if required.
A noise limiter is a device that bands and DJs plug their equipment into. It monitors the volume in the room, and if the sound goes over a set level, it cuts the power so everything switches off.
We work with professional sound technicians to manage our levels. A limit of around 100 decibels, with the limiter at least 7 metres from the stage, lets our full 9-piece play at its best.
Lower limits aren't always a deal-breaker. We've played plenty of venues with lower limits, sometimes using in-ear monitors and the venue's electronic drum kit to keep the volume down. Ask your venue what theirs is set to.
We've also plugged straight into venues' own in-house PA systems. If your venue has a limiter, we recommend talking to us before you book so we can plan around it.
Find out more in our guide to sound limiters at wedding venues.
That's not usually a problem, as long as we can talk to the venue or production company before your event. We can send over our technical rider for them.
Yes. All our equipment is fully PAT tested and we have public liability insurance up to £10m.
